Spirulina is a dietary supplement that is made from a type of blue-green algae.
It is a rich source of protein, essential fatty acids, B vitamins, potassium, calcium, chromium and other essential minerals.
Some research suggests that because of the nutrients it contains, spirulina may help to boost your immune system and mental
vitality, detox the body and make sure you’re getting all the nutrients you need when you are run down or dieting.
While spirulina generally doesn’t cause side effects at the recommended intake levels, pregnant and breast-feeding women are advised not to use spirulina, as are people who have a genetic disorder to the enzyme phenylalanine hydroxylase (PAH) called phenylketonuria.
NASA has proposed it as one of the foods that can be grown during long space missions!
